The 5-Axis CNC Business is for sale.

The business is centered around a Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) 5-Axis gantry mill.  CNC machining is used to make master patterns, prototypes, tooling and finished parts. The 5-Axis gantry mill can machine five sides of a 144" x 60" x 32" part, and by using mating techniques we produce larger parts.  The mill is controlled with a state of the art PC based control "OpenCNC" from MDSI, Inc.  There are a wide variety of cutting tools ranging from .030" to 1.000" diameter and up to 9" cutting length.  The business also includes a special Venus spray machine used to apply a catalyzed plastic resin which is  final machined to produce highly detailed surfaces.

Using a CAD design system one can iterate a design rapidly to produce a product that is best for form fit and function.  The Digital CAD data is then available to be used in Computer Aided Machining (CAM). Data from the CAM system is used by our 5-Axis CNC Gantry Mill to accurately and quickly produce master patterns. We have built tooling for Automobiles, Boats, Aircraft, as well as consumer items and even a robotic shark, RoboShark.

Our approach to tooling is to eliminate the bulk of the labor in the making of plugs.  The skilled master pattern maker has always been handicapped by needing to build the plug before one could evaluate the overall effect of the design.  At that point it is then costly to change  and most often not modified for the better design.  By working out the design on the computer screen before making dust a better part is assured.

We cut master patterns in various materials such as wood, high density tooling foam, low density foam and plastics . Our preferred method for large parts is to utilize a two step process wherein we cut the master pattern in low density polyurethane foam to an undersize that will allow a machineable plastic coating to be applied ,and then finish-cut to final dimension.  For this process we generally overcoat with SP Plastic's T-27 a viscous sprayable plastic applied to yield an overcoat of 0.300" after final machining.  This produces a master pattern with very fine detail needing a minimum of hand work.
